Pennard Vets: The Cat Friendly Clinic looking after the cats of Kent

Taking your cat to any veterinary practice can be a stressful occasion, for both you and your pet.

Cats aren’t like dogs. They need routine, are sensitive to their surroundings and often struggle in new environments.

To cater for this, it’s important that practices and veterinary professionals take particular care of their cats and consider their individual needs.

That’s why we are delighted to be one of the first veterinary clinics in the UK to achieve the silver standard in the Cat Friendly Clinic scheme, highlighting the extra effort we put in to making sure all of our feline patients are as happy as can be when they visit our branches.

What is a Cat Friendly Clinic?

The Cat Friendly Clinic programme is a worldwide accolade awarded by the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM).

The scheme ensures that veterinary practices have achieved certain standards for accreditation, are designed with cats in mind and ensure that the practice teams think about the specific care needs and nursing requirements of cats.

Our silver award shows that we:

Understand the unique needs of cats
Understand how to approach and handle cats in a gentle, empathetic and caring manner
Have good standards of equipment needed to investigate and treat feline diseases
Have good standard of facilities and care for hospitalised cats

How our branches are designed with your cat in mind

Our branches have separate dog and cat waiting areas, and those for cats are kitted out with Feliway diffusers and perches off the ground to allow your kitty a good view of their surroundings at height, where they feel safest.

Cats who require emergency or overnight care at our Sevenoaks practice will benefit from cat-specific wards, and in all of our consultations we allow some time for your cat to settle in before we handle and inspect them.

A requirement of being a Cat Friendly Clinic is to have a nominated member of our team as our “cat advocate”, who is responsible for ensuring that ISFM standards are maintained.

This recognition of what we do for our feline patients has been great for our team and ensures we continue to think cat!
